Abstract
The U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR) works to plan, foster, and encourage scientific research across a broad spectrum of research areas including a strong commitment to ocean science and technology, including physical oceanography and marine meteorology, all focused on ensuring we can operate effectively and with great impact in the maritime environment. It is increasingly important that U.S. S&T be closely linked with the global research and development community to benefit from the tremendous global capacity for innovation. ONR has a robust commitment to international cooperation in oceans research throughout Asia and the world. The OCEANS 2008 conference theme, "Voyage toward the Future" was chosen to encourage new challenges for our ocean and future. In this plenary talk, the U.S. Naval S&T vision will be presented to sponsor scientific research and technology in the context of the Naval S&T Strategic Plan.
