  • Abstract
Carbide end mills are widely utilized in the aluminum, magnesium and steel cutting industries. However, one major problem existed in the design and management of carbide end mill with related to the information sharing and utilization of current CAD/CAM systems, i.e. the separation of the design and manufacturing of the end mills due to the errors in the three dimensional (3D) solid end mill models, which also leads to the difficulty in the simulation of the end mill machining processes. And many restrictions of the machining condition deteriorate the accuracy of the simulation. For this reason, we proposed an accurate parametric end mill geometric model based on the end mill geometric parameters and the positioning of the grinding wheel. The relative motion of the mill and the wheel is simulated in this system, over-cut of the miller is observed in the course of the simulated motion. A set of equations to calculate the shape of the end mill and the accurate positioning of the grinding wheel are proposed and verified by some norm examples
