Abstract
An actuator for mounting surface mounted devices on printed circuit boards was designed and implemented. The designed system satisfies the requirements. It was possible to use a constant frequency control due to the small time constant of the motor, compared to the time constant of the servo system. A new rotation sensor based on polarization of light was developed that can measure the rotation of a translating shaft. A compact translation sensor was designed for the measurement of the linear displacement of a rotating shaft
