Abstract :
The task of authoring computer-assisted learning applications would seem to lend itself particularly well to realization by visual programming. We describe our approach to this with the development of an iconic, multi-paradigm language called CALVIN. After presenting the rationale for the design of this new language, we give an overview of the implementation architecture, which comprises a number of communicating sub-systems, and then move on to describe the salient features of the language in more detail. Unlike existing authoring languages, CALVIN is purely visual, and it is hoped that some of the ideas it embodies may have wider applicability
