Abstract :
The evanescent guided modes of the coupled optical waveguide arrays are investigated. We demonstrate that the modes of such kind may exist in the infinite plain periodical array of the identical waveguides below the cutoff frequency inherent in the single waveguide. The dispersion curves for the guided modes below the cutoff frequency are found. The dependence of the quality factor Q for the finite plane array on the number of the waveguides N is found to be Q ~ N3. A qualitative interpretation of this dependence is presented.
