Abstract :
The authors address the way the most important implementation aspects are taken into account for the development of UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System). After a short introduction to mobility in UMTS and to the applied specification method, the following aspects are discussed: integration into existing and forthcoming networks for fixed communication and the role of intelligent networks (IN). Based on this, a functional architecture and a network architecture for UMTS are presented
