Abstract :
The optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) phenomenon was observed in Cu-doped NaCl single crystals. The intensity of OSL with a peak at about 353 nm is proportional to the optical density of the F band which was created by X-ray irradiation. This effect has potential application in high-energy radiation detection and imaging. A possible reaction responsible for OSL is also proposed, based on the recombination of Cu/sup 2+/ ions with electrons released from the F centers.<>
