Abstract :
GSM provides two different circuit switched bearer services for data transmission: the transparent and the nontransparent service. In opposition to the transparent service, the nontransparent service provides an error free data transmission on the GSM air interface. The facsimile teleservice over nontransparent bearer service in GSM requires a FAX-adaptation function, which is able to meet the T.30 time conditions in spite of the lower bit-rate at the air interface. The article investigates the philosophy and the performance of the GSM facsimile teleservice on top of the nontransparent bearer service
