Abstract
A new technique for dynamic channel allocation for microcellular PCN is described. The technique uses distributed control for autonomous allocation of radio resources, based on cochannel carrier-to-interference-ratio (CIR) measurements by the main base station in each cell which is located at the centre of each cell. Sub-stations surrounding the main base stations are used, under control from the base station, to effectively change the location of the base station within the cell, to automatically adapt to the time-variant call traffic. It is shown by computer simulation that this adaptive system improves the capacity of the network by 2.2 times, in comparison to the conventional fixed channel assignment scheme
