Abstract
Enlightened by organization and generation mode of human society, the ethnic group evolution algorithm (EGEA), whose population is formed of several ethnic groups, is proposed. The ethnic groups, classified by the behavioral similarity of elite individuals, represent the possible evolution trends in population, while the matrimony operator is used to control the competition and generation process of ethnic group and promote schema exchange among ethnic groups that ensure the inheritance and development of ethnic group as well as keep the diversity and validity of population and improve the search efficiency of EGEA. The simulation tests of function optimization show that the EGEA can restrain premature convergence phenomenon effectively during the evolutionary process while increasing the convergence speed greatly.
