Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a novel technique called CARE (capture-recapture fair sharing) to provide fair bandwidth sharing. CARE estimates two network resource parameters: the number of flows in the buffer and the data source rate of a flow by using a capture-recapture model. The capture-recapture model depends on simply the random capturing/recapturing of the incoming packets, and as a result, it provides a good approximation tool with low time/space complexity. Our experiments and analysis demonstrates that CARE provides highly accurate fair bandwidth share under different network configurations and outperforms the existing mechanisms.
