Cost effective solutions for coverage enhancement

The operators of mobile telephone networks are obliged to provide coverage almost everywhere irrespective of buildings, tunnels and difficult terrain. The problems associated with lack of coverage in difficult terrain, urban construction and underground tunnels must be overcome. In many cases it is impossible to justify the equipment and installation costs for extra base station sites to serve these areas. To overcome these difficult coverage problems AFL has developed a range of cost effective, versatile, (on-frequency) repeaters (cell enhancers). Three different types to meet the coverage problems of particular users are discussed. These are: on-frequency broadband cell enhancer; on-frequency narrowband (channelised) cell enhancer; and frequency translating (frequency converter)
