Abstract :
During the last several years there have been significant advances in digital metering technology paralleled by advances in communications technology, i.e. fiber, wireless, and internet. The goal of this presentation is to give specific end user examples of the intelligent electronic device (IED) capabilities currently available, embracing applications in SCADA, feeder load forecasting, key account metering and marketing, power supply monitoring, etc., as well as to give an overview of the network communications architecture alternatives. IED´s can truly enhance system operations, customer service, key account marketing, and wholesale power purchasing
