Abstract :
The introduction by the Ioffe Institute of an unconventional switching mechanism, based on the very fast recovery of a drift-step recovery diode (DSRD) allows methods for pulsed power generation [1-2]. Therefore a circuit topology is needed to generate a fast forward current through the DSRD, before a reverse current can activate the drift step recovery. This requires a complicated circuit, consisting of two well-tuned C-L-C circuits, with saturable inductor [3]. Adjustment of the high-voltage pulse amplitude is not possible with such a circuit.
