Abstract
This paper presents an investigative methodology to evaluate the corrosive process evolution of carbon steel plates as a function of time. It is based on automatic visual inspection, considering digital image texture analysis of carbon steel samples (without any painting) subjected to saline environments. The initial results indicate the possibility of a new method to evaluate corrosion. The entropy versus time graph obtained shows that this technique could be used to identify, predict and quantify the evolution of atmospheric corrosion in industrial equipment or historic monuments in various environments.
