Abstract :
A new high-resolution neural probe, the micro action potential scanner (MAPS), is proposed. The MAPS is designed for simultaneous recording from many cells in a single neural network, a challenging task using conventional neural probes. Conjectures are made about the MAPS´ potential to record from more single cells from a smaller area than microelectrode arrays due to the MAPS´ higher spatial resolution. The MAPS gains its high resolution by its ability to scan an area of neural tissue. Scanning is made possible by the novel use of a p-n junction
