Abstract
The architecture and design process of the SEARCH1 servo/channel multiprocessor are described. This device, which was specifically designed for embedded servo disk drive applications, contains all the digital circuitry needed to implement actuator and spindle servos. It combines an 8-b general-purpose processor to coordinate the various functions in the drive, a 16-b DSP to perform the servo calculations, and a timing processor to generate servo burst timing, perform spindle speed control, and detect servo timing marks
