Abstract :
This paper presents a generalized small signal model for analysis and design of FACTS controllers. The model has been developed in a state space framework which has been used to study the effect of various FACTS controllers such as UPFC, SSSC and STATCOM. The approach is modular and general enough so as to include any sub system along with detailed representation. The performance of FACTS controllers have been evaluated in a sample two area system which can readily be extended to multi-area with some augmentation. The simulation study shows the capability of the model and controllers´ selection criterion based on the performance evaluation.
