Abstract
The Static Load Tree (SLT) approach currently used in EMS operational model of the power system can result in substantial load modeling errors. Deployment of a Dynamically updated Load Tree (DLT), instead of a SLT, significantly increases the accuracy of load modeling for day-ahead and short term planning studies, and the accuracy of non-metered load modeling for real time operations. A simple but reasonably accurate DLT model can be built from a rolling 7-day historical data window of loads taken from State Estimator results. That model does not require weather forecast information. Accuracy of the proposed DLT has been validated using EMS operational model data from ISO New England.
