Abstract
In this work, the magneto-optical effect and photochromism are investigated in Fe doped Bi4Ge3O12 single crystals in a wide spectral range. It is found that the photosensitivity of doped crystals is significantly shifted to the visible wavelengths. We report the experimental results of Faraday rotation in the case of Fe doped Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO). The rotation angle of the polarization plane of the crystal plate has been investigated in the magnetic field in illuminated state, obtained by exposure with ultraviolet (UV) light and annealed state developed after annealing at 400°C. We have observed the strong appearance of Fe impurity in the spectral range 320 nm - 600 nm. The experimental determination of magneto-optic properties of Fe3+ ions gives us opportunity for calculation of the refractive index n of the doped BGO.
