Abstract :
This paper presents new data communication networks, such as: GPRS, EDGE and 3G (UMTS), and new multimedia services through an evolutionary concept of development. Common in this evolution is the IP (Internet protocol). New network elements such as the media gateways, IP-based BSS (base station system) and a new concept of the horizontally layered network are presented
