Abstract :
The design of a direct control of a chemical plant based on variable structure output feedback system theory is described. The plant consists of a reactor followed by an elaborate separation system. The overall control strategy is to operate the plant at near optimum return on investment. This is to be accomplished through a multilayered hierarchical computer control. Two control designs using boundary layers, which implement the lowest layer, are presented and examined
