Abstract :
A 450 MHz miniaturised split ring antenna loaded with lumped element capacitors is presented. The antenna is placed over a small artificial magnetic conductor to form a very compact, conformal platform tolerant antenna. Significant bandwidth and gain improvements are achieved for the combined structure when compared to the performance of the antenna alone. The overall thickness of the structure is 15.2mm and the antenna maximum dimension is 78mm which corresponds to λ/44 and λ/9 respectively at 450 MHz.
