Abstract
An illustration of the OSS capabilities by showing some of the results obtained for a few optical systems is presented. This study also demonstrates how one can use OSS to simulate and analyze the experimental methods, such as the Hakki-Paoli and Cassady methods for gain measurement in semiconductor lasers. Hence, this study not only shows how simulations can provide better insight into various effects that determine accuracy of a given measurement but also demonstrates the unique capabilities of this simulation engine in the regime where accurate capturing of broad-band dynamics is necessary.
