Abstract :
Microcellular coverage from a set of base stations on Southampton University campus is presented. The base station omnidirectional antennas were mounted below the urban sky-line, and measurements of received signal power and Rician K-factor distance profiles were made. Coverage plots for each microcell in terms of path loss enabled the shadowing effects of buildings and diffraction losses around corners to be quantified. Assigning channel sets to the base stations enabled the speculation of cluster sizes in urban environments to be made. A microcellular prediction tool provided predictions that were compared to the measured results
