Abstract :
This paper provides a discussion on the validity of analytical and numerical models for calculating interference into circuits due to ESD radiated fields. The analytical model consists in the dipole model. An ESD produced by a generator for testing is numerically modeled using the software tool MicroWave Studio (MWS). In this simulation model the body of the generator and the effect of the strap is taken into account. The aim of the discussion is to investigate the limitations of the dipole model, the influence of the ESD gun and strap used in a realistic testing, and provide some considerations on the overestimation occurring with the use of the simple analytical model.
