  • Abstract
This paper purpose a new block coded modulation (BCM) encoder which is referred to as the dual symbol BCM (DS-BCM) encoder. The DS-BCM encoder for 8-PSK is based on the design criteria of codes for fading channels. New ring trellis coded modulation (ring-TCM) codes for 8-PSK over fading channels were found using an efficient search algorithm. The performance of the DS-BCM and ring-TCM encoders for 8-PSK modulation has been evaluated and compared with other schemes presented in the literature. This paper also introduce a new concatenated system in which the outer code is the DS-BCM and the inner code is the ring-TCM. Simulation results show that significant coding gain is provided by the new proposed concatenated system over Rayleigh and Rician fading channels. The proposed concatenated system offers a higher bandwidth efficiency compared to concatenated RS+TCM and Goly+TCM systems
