Abstract :
Given the growing need for interoperability among various communication services (IP, PSTN, PLMN), ENUM technology has become fundamental to the development of VoIP services. Through modeling and simulation, this paper presents a performance study of the ENUM protocol considering the response time for E.164 numbers resolution which is an important performance requirement that is directly linked to the connection establishment time in VoIP systems. The scenarios include the study of TTL influence, retransmission timeouts for lost queries, distribution of the number of hops, etc. Simulation results allowed us to find a good value of TTL for ENUM protocol. We also found that the distribution of the number of hops is one of the most important factor that impact the response time.
