Abstract :
The automatic control of the specific growth rate in cell cultivation processes has become a major issue in process control in the recent years. Most of the work on fed-batch fermentation control is focused on the open-loop optimal control problem. In this work, quadratic dynamic matrix control (QDMC) approach is used for regulation of the specific growth rate of fed-batch cultivation process. The focus of this work is on the closed-loop constrained control and disturbance compensation of fed-batch fermentation. QDMC control using a specific tuning method can achieve good result for set point tracking, constraint handling and disturbance rejection in this problem
