Abstract :
This paper reports the developments of a NanoScience Concentration Program at University of Texas at Brownsville. The long-term goal is to introduce nanoscience, nanoengineering and nanotechnology through interdisciplinary approaches into undergraduate education. The rationale for the proposed multidisciplinary NanoScience Program is to integrate and expand nanotechnology-relevant courses within a comprehensive curriculum. This program is expected to reach out to a large group of undergraduate students in a coordinated manner, enable students knowledge and skills, as well as facilitate efforts of individual faculty members. We discuss the integration of quantum physics, electronics, microsystems and nanotechnology in science, engineering and technology curricula. The proposed NanoScience Program includes a number of undergraduate courses which currently under developments, offering, assessment and evaluation. Coherent, cohesive and consistent courses coverage spans from the first principles and basic fundamentals to design, analysis, fabrication, testing, characterization and evaluation of nanodevices and nanosystems.
