Abstract
A light-guiding metal line with an embedded dielectric core is investigated through the eigenmode and propagating beam analyses. The loss characteristics are evaluated as a function of metal width. A tapered metal line is also proposed to convert the surface plasma-like mode of the metal line into the guided mode of the embedded dielectric waveguide.
