Abstract :
Distributed energy resource (DER) units are connected to the trunk feeder of micro-grid by different types of switches. Isolator and circuit breaker are the two such options as switching devices. In this paper, authors investigate how these switches influence the customer interruption cost (CIC) of a 6-bus radial micro-grid. In this context, they assess the reliability of the system using indices SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI, ASAI, ASUI and EUE. Also, maximization of benefit-to-cost ratio (BCR) arising from reduction of customer interruption cost (CIC) due to above two switching connections, along with reduction of system loss and waste heat utilization are addressed in the connection of selection of optimal sizes of DERs.
