Abstract :
Bolt-flange joint structure is a complex nonlinear system. A three-dimensional finite element analysis on the mechanical behavior of bolted joints under the external applied load with considering the contact of the joints interfaces is presented. The results are compared with the traditional linear finite element analysis which makes the flange surfaces fixed together. It is shown that the linear model magnifies the rigid of joint, which causes the calculating stress smaller than the real value, while the nonlinear contacting model can simulate the mechanical behavior of joints accurately. The calculating results are the same with the experimental results.
