Abstract :
Geological structures and the water table were detected by GPR measurements in the sandy area of Letzlinger Heide (Germany). The glacial sediments consist of clayish lenses in sand and the water table is at a depth of more than 40 m. The strong lateral heterogeneity is known from boreholes. Different frequencies from 25 MHz to 200 MHz on the ground were used to detect these structures. The same area was used to test two helicopter-borne GPR systems operating at 30 and 100 MHz center frequency. The results of these measurements are discussed and the capabilities of the methods are shown.
