Abstract :
Many measurements of wideband channel characteristics have focused on delay spread and the number of RAKE fingers that are active in a given channel bandwidth. Little consideration has been given to the life time/distance of fingers as the subscriber moves along the street. To predict RAKE finger life distance, we use 3D ray tracing techniques in a typical urban street scene. Simulations are run for the cities of Seoul, Korea and Munich, Germany at 900 MHz, assuming a 5 MHz bandwidth. The median life distance of the second, third and fourth fingers are found to be 8-15 m, although the life distance of the second finger is sometimes very long.
