Abstract :
The use of oil filling as a protection technique for electrical apparatus to be used in hazardous areas has been established for many years. Oil filling has some interesting and useful properties, and it is worth considering its application for low powered apparatus. The author outlines the technique, discusses its advantages and shows how it may be applied to apparatus such as remote outstations of distributed control systems which are low current apparatus and do not have normally arcing or sparking parts
