Abstract
The large scale wind power development in China has met with the bottle-neck of grid digestion ability. The excess wind power has to be rejected by the grid operators. Among the smart grid technologies, the storage ability of the Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEV) is the new resource added to the grid. This paper investigates the potential of wind power digestion by the PEVs. The potential of PEVs to absorb the excess wind power during night hours is assessed with a PEV charging model. The benefits of night PEV charging are illustrated for the four high-wind-penetration regional grids in China. The results under the government planning scenario shows the controlled PEV charging has remarkable wind accommodation potentials.
