Abstract :
We investigate the capacity of multi-element antenna (MEA) systems in microcell and picocell environments by using the geometrically based single bounce elliptical model (GBSBEM). The capacity of MEA systems heavily depends on the magnitude of the spatial correlation. In this study, we use the GBSBEM model to determine the spatial correlation in two antenna configurations: (a) a uniform broadside linear array; and (b) a uniform circular array. We compare the results to previous studies based on the abstract one-ring model. Simulation results show that the capacity for the GBSBEM model is higher than that for the abstract one-ring model because the magnitude of spatial correlation of the GBSBEM model, given the same model parameters, is lower.
