  • Abstract
    Considering the commutation failure characteristics and control performance of DC system, electromagnetic transient simulation for large-scale MIDC system is unavoidable. This paper gives an electromagnetic transient simulation application using PSCAD/EMTDC for large-scale MIDC system. To study the difference between electromagnetic and electromagnetic transient simulation methods for MIDC systems, electromagnetic simulation results of the equivalent system are compared with electromechanical transient simulation results of the original system in symmetric and asymmetric fault cases. The reasons of simulation difference between two simulation methods for MIDC system are discussed. Finally, the paper presents the application condition for electromechanical and electromechanical transient simulation methods.
