Abstract :
ATM technology is able to integrate various services including existing 64 kbps networks such as plain old telephone service (POTS) and N-ISDN. We developed an experimental ATM subscriber line interface circuit for POTS and N-ISDN. This paper describes the key technical points of the ATM-SLIC. We propose message-type control transfer for controlling the ATM-SLIC, embedding existing trunk functions in the ATM-SLIC, an economical interface structure, and a cell-based system control method. Finally, their characteristics and effectiveness are confirmed with an experimental ATM subscriber switching system using the ATM-SLIC
