Abstract
Motor selection procedures are normally based on limited catalogue data and a rough estimation of feeding, loading and ambient conditions. An improperly selected motor may have unpredictably short lifetime if overloaded or may be economically inefficient if underloaded. The problem of optimal motor selection or checking of operating motor is still of great importance in practice. An alternative approach to standard AC induction motor selection and checking, described here, is based on generalized models of motors obtained by comprehensive experiments with series of DIN standard motors and reflecting motor steady-state behaviour under any given conditions. These models form an advanced motor database containing all necessary information for motor selection and checking
