Abstract
RF channel measurements in mines have important applications in the field of mobile communications for improving operational efficiency and worker safety. This paper presents channel path loss measurements taken in a potash mine using a low cost RF channel measurement system. These measurements, taken at 915 MHz, are compared with a theoretical model. The measurements confirm that the mine tunnels can be modeled as oversized waveguides.
