Abstract
This paper discusses the effects of IP RAN to the handover, which is the key functionality of the radio resource management (RRM), to demonstrate the advantages of IP RAN. It takes Nokia´s PORAN scheme as an example of IP RAN to do the discussion. Through the analysis on the effects of IP RAN to the soft/softer handover and CRRM (common radio resource management) functionality in the inter-system handover, we demonstrate the significance of the IP RAN and its many advantages. We more and more believe that the IP RAN will be the key step for the evolution to the future end-to-end all-IP network.
