Abstract
The approach used at Nottingham Polytechnic to develop the expertise of ASIC designers at the undergraduate level is described. It is argued that an integrated approach to computer aided engineering (CAE) is important, that the interface between the ASIC and other components is necessary, and that board-level simulation is an essential element in the process. One of the design studies is described
