Abstract
The authors describe the CIM Toolkit, a tool to simplify the preparation of the specification and design of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems. The toolkit supplies a generic blueprint of a CIM system and describes how to customize the generic blueprint to meet the specific user needs. It allows the user to prepare the specification and design of his own CIM system in a very short time and very efficiently. The CIM Toolkit has been used to prepare the specification and design of large CIM systems for General Motors
