  • Abstract
    Inter-vehicle safety communication is a low cost method to improve road traffic safety. This paper surveys the acknowledgement confirmations in broadcasting MAC protocols and their applicability to inter-vehicle safety communication. The characteristics and the key problems of inter-vehicle safety communication are analyzed. Acknowledgement confirmation is an important factor affecting the message reception reliability and the delivery latency. Due to the different reply mechanisms, the broadcasting MAC protocols are classified, the corresponding acknowledgement confirmation and its applicability to inter-vehicle safety communication are discussed. At last, we conclude the acknowledgement confirmation of inter-vehicle safety communication.
