Title :
Assessment of impregnated paper and epoxy resin materials through simulated PD detection
Abstract :
Impregnated paper and epoxy resins are typically being used as insulating materials in the power transformer winding. Power transformers always works on peak loads, which builds different types of stresses such as thermal, electrical, mechanical etc., that influences their insulation strength properties. Stresses in prolong periods weaken the insulation, which ultimately leads to failure or breakdown. Earlier stage of reduction of insulation properties can be seen in the form of the partial discharges (PD). This paper discusses the insulation performances of impregnated paper and epoxy resins in production of the PD. Computer simulation tool microwave studio (CST MWS) software is used to simulate these conditions.
