Abstract :
Recently wind energy has developed at a fast pace, and it is necessary to develop equivalent models to represent dynamic behaviors of wind farms on power system. The equivalent wind method has been investigated for the aggregation of DFIG wind turbines. The detailed procedure for the calculation of equivalent wind has been analyzed. The necessity of classifying incoming winds has been shown. In order to improve the performance of the equivalent wind method, this paper proposes to classify incoming winds according to the characteristics of wind power curves, and a group of turbines with similar wind are aggregated together. When wind turbines experience large wind fluctuations, the members of a group may vary. This paper proposes suitable strategy to handle this transition. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy has been verified through simulations in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
