Abstract
This paper studies the impact of anchor re-routing based inter-switch handoffs on mobile ATM connections. An asymptotically equivalent portable (AEP) model is proposed as an approximation technique to facilitate the evaluation. The results indicate that potentially significant improvement in switch resource utilization might be achieved by considering user mobility. Low bit rate connections were found to be more susceptible to handoff signaling impact
