Abstract :
This paper presents a compact double negative metamaterial (MTM) absorber unit cell four-element arrayed electric-LC (ELC) resonators. Overall size of the proposed unit cell is 9 mm × 9 mm × 2 mm. The proposed four-element arrayed ELC resonator where the external magnetic field is normal to the plane of the ELC resonator substrate, and the electric field is parallel to the capacitor plate exhibit a negative permittivity and a negative permeability. The proposed unit cell is printed on the one side of a FR-4 substrate (relative dielectric constant = 4.6, thickness = 2 mm). Simulated results show the maximum absorption of 95 % at 8.6 GHz. In the design of the double negative MTM unit cell, the complex permittivity and permeability of the cell are retrieved from the simulated scattering parameters.
